launched its new bridal campaign ‘Reflections’ and it has caught our attention. The brand has got together with Ali Sethi to create a promotional video for their new collection. The video features Ali Sethi with a brand new song ‘Rondian Ankhaan’Found in 2016 by Mehak and Mehar, Souchaj is located in Lahore. Souchaj’s first fashion campaign, titled heirloom, featured renowned personalities, Mira Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin already caught a lot of people’s attention. Souchaj is getting appreciation from the fashion fraternity
Their new bridal wear ‘Reflections’ is inspired by traditional couture and according to the brand, this collection is a ‘reflection of diverse Pakistani cultures.’ ‘Reflections integrated a colorful and innovative blend of several Pakistani cultures, consisting of chic motives derived from folk art on kamkhab, atlus, chunri and pure khaadi tissue’. ‘Reflections’ video is directed by Aabroo Hashimi while Maram Aabroo came up with the concept. The video of Reflections features beautiful bridal wear with equally stunning jewelry.
‘For women who carry themselves in a confident, assertive and aggressive manner but at the same time are very feminine. They are independent who are sure of themselves and very comfortable in their own skin.’ -Souchaj
The video and the song come together as a way of storytelling. The video portrays a distressed, deserted woman who occasionally seems to be searching for someone in a desert-like landscape. The song ‘Rondian Ankhaan’ and its lyrics fit the gloomy mood of the video. In another scene, she also types away on her typewriter as if trying to communicate with someone. Ali Sethi is also featured in the video singing the song.
Souchaj’s new bridal campaign is a thumbs up from us!

OŪCHAJ: A very unique name that was the first thing that caught our attention about the brand. The word ‘SOŪCHAJ’ is actually derived from two Punjabi words: soucha meaning pure and chajj meaning perfection and love for finesse. When combined, these two words capture the aesthetic and design philosophy of the brand perfectly. This is evident in the first look of SOŪCHAJ, as seen in its introductory campaign.
SOŪCHAJ’s first campaign featuring the popular, elegant and intellectual mother-daughter duo Mira Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin, is quite the coup; this is perhaps the first time the two icons have come together for a fashion campaign of this genre. This is also the first time we have seen a fashion brand think out of the box, keeping things simple and tapping into the timelessness of traditional couture. It has an ability to transcend time and age; it also impresses with the intricacy and aesthetic balance of the designs with some very unique color palettes.
The debut collection, The Royal Heirloom, features individual pieces inspired and named after the various queens and princesses of the land. The impact of local history and culture is evident in the classic silhouettes as well as the choice of fabric and embellishment on each outfit. Most of the pieces manifested very earthy tones that are infused with details mirroring the regality of royalties. From Marium-uz-Zamani and Salima Sultan Begum to Mumtaz Mehal and Dil Ras Bano Begum, every dress narrates a story.
Our favourite and most classic outfit from the collection has to be the ivory shahana gharara worn by Mira Sethi (above); while ivory is quite a standard colour it is the powder blue embellished dupatta that sets if off uniquely. This intricate outfit shows how a heavy outfit can look regal and restrained at the same time. While minimalism is always desirable when it comes to ready to wear fashion, Pakistan’s couture stands out for tradition and the richness of craft that is indigenous to this region; SOŪCHAJ celebrates that very sentiment.
Mehak Malik and Mehr Khan, the two designers behind SOŪCHAJ, recently launched their studio in Lahore, the hub of Pakistan’s rich heritage.
Adding to their vision the designers behind SOŪCHAJ said, “When we began brainstorming for this collection, we wanted a range that ‘spoke for itself’. Our pieces are unique with attention to detail and the best quality making SOŪCHAJ a sight to behold. Our products are not just outfits but spectacles in themselves telling the stories that they represent with all of the traditional intricacies infused with top notch methods and designs. SOŪCHAJ is our quest to do something outstanding in the field of couture and couture definitely has a new name now.”
SOŪCHAJ has managed to rustle up interest with their very first collection, a commendable feat, as the bridal market is tough, competitive and somewhat saturated. But it has been ages since we’ve seen ensembles, with the exception of our grandmothers’ bridal joras, which we could imagine being worn ten years down the road, and SOŪCHAJ manages to bring back a philosophy of timeless classicism by turning fashion into heirlooms.

turns one, bringing forward the timelessness of traditional couture that signifies opulence and grace in its each piece. In the past year, the creative powerhouse, the brainchild of Mehak Malik and Mehr Khan initiated bridal couture and luxury formal wear with its focus on the very aspect of revival and retention of the heritage of our values and traditions. Thus the name Souchaj, derived from two Punjabi words “ Soucha” meaning pure and “Chajj” meaning perfection and love for finesse.
The most enthralling thing that captured our interest in the past one-year is its ability to transcend time and age with the exceptional assortment of immaculate detailing used along with the richness of craft that is indigenous to this region. This is something that really has evolved as their design aesthetic in a year’s span along with timeless silhouettes, which depicts the regal craftsmanship to the royal artisanship and attention to detail in between, keeping the concept of heirloom and heritage intact. Thus, their products are not just outfits but spectacles in themselves telling us the stories that they represent with all the classic handwork, luxe fibers, exotic colors and luxurious knots.
Keeping true to its essence, Souchaj evolved around the philosophy of the brand, to make classic & timeless outfits, while taking into consideration the taste of modern women into account, who wants their ensembles to be capable of retaining an aura of finesse and tradition.
Souchaj, with its prime objective to promote Pakistani culture and tradition through fashion embarked on its first bridal and formal collection with Mira Sethi and the veteran Jugnu Mohsin, which beautifully encapsulated the relationship between a mother and a daughter. Moreover, the brands muse stretched from the uber talented Mehvish Hayat, Mehreen Syed, Hareem Farooq, Urwa Hocane, Ghanna Ali & Sajal Ali.
Their collections use a combination of different luxurious fabrics that play along with heavy elaborations created from various royal techniques, stitches and attention to detail. What further brings life to this brand’s collections is the contrast of exotic color tones that include hues of light golds, reds, cream, pastels, bold magentas and prominent blacks. Souchaj has illustrated a rare tale of ethnicity along with classic artisanship with it’s formals that are bound to leave a classic imprint through its baronial collection.
One thing that really has enabled Souchaj to establish a market niche is the personalization in each ensemble, which is tailored to the customer’s desire, keeping aesthetic balance of the designs. For us Souchaj is a full package that includes poise, subtlety and luxury hence helping it secure a top spot in our favorites list. With Souchaj celebrating it’s first anniversary we can’t wait for more traditional goodness.
Kudos to Souchaj for bringing back a philosophy of timeless classicism by turning fashion into heirlooms.

We believe in traditions; we believe in the idea of things and cultural values to be passed through tradition”. Souchaj, therefore carries forward this legacy and thus celebrates its one year anniversary of bringing forward high end-luxury eponymous fashion. In the past year, the fashion powerhouse, led by Mehr Khan and Mehak Malik introduced bridal couture and luxury formal wear that exudes class and elegance while taking inspiration from our rich tradition, culture and heritage. True to its name, the brand itself stands for, “Soucha” meaning pure and “Chajj” meaning perfection and love for finesse.
Souchaj’s design philosophy transcends time and age focusing on extreme craftsmanship and sleek cuts keeping the concept of heirloom and heritage evident in each piece. Their ensembles reflect the Pakistani culture and tradition through fashion, classic handwork, timeless silhouettes, luxe fibers and exotic colors.
The amalgam of heritage and contemporary appeal deems their outfits fit for the modern woman looking for her outfits to stand out, yet maintaining an aura of tradition and culture. The assortment and array of designs put forward through their collections boast of timeless and bespoke designs.
Souchaj embarked on its first bridal and formal collection with Mira Sethi and the veteran Jugnu Mohsin, which successfully encapsulated the relationship between a mother and a daughter revealing the true quintessence of the brand. Furthermore, the brand has also worked with the A-listers of the industry; to name a few, the talented and beautiful Mehvish Hayat, Mehreen Syed, Hareem Farooq, Urwa Hocane, Ghanna Ali and Sajal Ali. Thus synopsizing the true essence that heirlooms we don’t have in our family, but stories we have got.
With a special emphasis on breaking away from the passé, the fashion house deconstructs and re-segments embellishments across a soft, feminine palette of light golds, reds, cream, pastels to bold magentas and classic blacks. Stretching from traditional designs to modern cuts, Souchaj promises to awe everyone.
The collection has a baronial feel: traditional and statement-making. Gold and silver polki designs set the tone. Emeralds, rubies, tourmaline, pearls and diamonds set in beautifully crafted pieces make this collection regal and timeless.
Moreover, the incorporation of luxe fabrics such as tissue, organza and raw silk represents the theme and transition of women and their style over a period of time. Utmost emphasis on quality of the work and individualistic detailing has allowed the brand to create a market niche. One year and Souchaj has blown us over, we can’t wait for more they have to deliver.

For hair and makeup, we had Hussain Raza, the jewelry was provided by Humna Amir Jewerly, and photography was done by Azeem Sani. We conceptualized 4 looks for Hareem Farooq, 3 looks for Ali Rehman and 2 looks for Ahmed Ali Akbar that were exhilarating.
The idea was to capture the raw and earth feel through heavy bridal/luxury wear and depict the quintessential man and woman.

trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many different ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designer’s collection, according to their own individual style and taste!
This emerald green velvet shawl by Souchaj is the perfect statement-making piece for the festive wedding season. The luxurious fabric and the gold thread and bead detailing give the shawl a regal feel and make it versatile enough to style in different ways. Style it with silk separates or pair it with a white shirt to add that glam factor to a simple ensemble,
Aliza Waqar
Photographer and Make-up Artist
I draped this beautiful Souchaj shawl over a crisp white shirt and dark wash jeans as a sari dress. The shawl is so exquisite; I wanted it to stand out even more against the white shirt. I kept my hair straight and added a bold lip. I’d wear this to a destination wedding where I would want to be comfortable yet glamorous!
Jawariya Yasir
Brand Marketing Consultant-The Balm Pakistan
I preferred to wear the shawl traditionally with a short kurti and flared pants from Souchaj’s luxury formal collection to sustain its design and contemporary cut work. The embellishment on the shawl was mesmerising and royal enough so I didn’t opt for any jewellery. I kept the ensemble simple to leave the emphasis on the shawl. I would love to wear this on formal occasions like Eid, a wedding or an evening dholki.
Nosheen Sadiq
Interior Designer
I wore this velvet shawl by Souchaj with a white casual shirt. The baggy sleeves of the shirt gave it a simple and fuss-free look. The simple and elegant look was complimented with no jewellery which was easy to handle. Moving with today’s trend I chose nude lipstick with dark shimmery eyes for a summery evening look. This outfit is perfect for a formal dinner.

brains behind upcoming bridal-wear brand, Mehak and Meher launched Souchaj in Lahore with their brand ambassadors, actress, Mira Sethi and her mother, seasoned journalist herself, Jugnu Mohsin. Traditional, ancestral and regal, the brand promises to go back to the golden era of local fashion with their heavily embellished, yet absolutely stunning bridal ensembles.
To find out more details, HIP got a hold of Sethi who was all praises for the budding designer duo. “It is not superficial, it really embraces the old-school desi,” she begins. “As far as I’m concerned, I feel desi can never go out of style since it’s true to who we are and it’s simply beautiful. Even when I go to shaadis, I don’t like wearing dementias or ornaments like fake pearls on my clothes and Souchaj stays away from that.”
Speaking of what made her take the project, the Dil Banjara actress says that she was mighty impressed with the collection and seemed hopeful of the brand’s future prospects. “I really like their sensibility of the band. I really like the fact that the aesthetic is true to our desiroots,” she answers with conviction.
“They use a lot of gotta in a very classic style. One of the designers takes inspiration from her mother and grandmother and she looked at stuff they wore at their weddings and that is primarily what I love about the brand,” she continued.
Interestingly enough, the campaign also happens to be the first time Mira posed for the camera with her mother. “I had received the pictures of the clothes on my phone and I showed Ammi some of them and she told me she quite liked them,” Sethi says of what convinced her mother to take it up. “Since we hadn’t collaborated before, I asked her because I knew it would’ve been a fun memory and she agreed.”

I asked Mira of how it was being on-set with Jugnu Mohsin and what memories they now cherish from their first shoot together. “It was very sweet. While we were shooting, we recited a lot of Urdu poetry. We cracked a lot of jokes and got mutton karhai from where the shoot was taking place,” she giggles. “We all sat around the daigh and had it clean with pieces on naan in no time at all.”
And while Sethi does have a number of runway appearances and campaigns to her credit, she seems to be clear about what makes her opt for a certain brand. “I have to fundamentally like the clothes,” she shares, revealing that she’s turned down a number of hefty offers for she did not believe in the cause.
Coming to work otherwise, Mira will begin shooting for her debut film titled Saat Din Mohabbat In later this summer. Also starring Mahira Khan and Sheheryar Munawar, the romantic-comedy will see Mira playing a comical character and is slated to release sometime in 2018. Her debut book, a collection of short stories, will be published next year as well by industry giants, Knopf and Bloomsbury.
